I really enjoyed how this book was laid out. Its main focus was about hidden hero’s, but it also added in tidbits about the war. For instance, if the main passage of the page mentioned something that was not common knowledge, it explained it in a smaller passage on the page. This is great with littles immediately asking “What’s that mean?” All in all a great, visually appealing book!

Thank you, Bushel & Peck, for a preview copy of Heroes of World War II. This is a great addition to any young or middle grade reader’s WWII bookshelf. I’m especially happy the author’s introduction mentioned the detained Italian-Americans, relocated German-Americans, and most of all, the over 120,000 people of Japanese descent who were held in concentration camps throughout the United States. Pictures and short descriptions of the unsung heroes are on every page for the really young ones, along with a deeper description for the older kids.

The book covers a wide group of heroes from all over the world. That was interesting to me. I learned things! The book doesn’t gloss over the atrocities of the war, but also doesn’t unnecessarily specify them. It is written in a way that a child could pick & choose what sections to read. I am going to add pictures & a brief explanation of what my father & my father-in-law did during the war. They are our heroes also. In future editions, maybe you could include a few blank pages for families to add photos or thoughts. Thanks!
