Once we receive your submission, our publishing team will spend a few weeks reviewing the manuscript. We'll discuss your book's quality of writing, marketability, sales potential, and fit for Bushel & Peck.

If we think we can make your book a publishing success, the next step is a consultation with you. We'll review the manuscript together, talk about its strengths and weaknesses, and outline our ideas for making it the best book it can be. You'll also have a chance to discuss any questions you have about our process or contract. More than anything, we want you to feel comfortable and love the publishing process, so we take our time here.

If you like the sound of everything and we both feel good about working with each other, we'll make it official!

With the contract is signed, it's time to begin the editing process. Your book will be assigned to one of our talented editors, who will help you revise language, pacing, structure, organization, tone, and all the other ingredients that make an exceptional children's book. Later, we'll also do a complete copyedit to make sure the manuscript is free of errors.

At this stage, we'll also assign your book to one of our seasonal lists and give it a tentative publication month.

When the manuscript is at last ready, we begin illustration. We'll pull together a selection of artists whose style matches your book's tone and market, and with your input, we'll select the illustrator we think is best suited to bring your story to life. Most publishers don't give authors input on the choice of artist, but we feel this is an important part of the collaboration.

While all the editing and illustration are happening, we'll be working behind the scenes to prepare your book for our sales team. This includes compiling metadata, your book's cover, sample interiors, and presenting the book to our sales force at regular sales conferences. This is a crucial part of preparing for a successful book launch, and because retailers make purchasing decisions so far in advance, these steps happen many months before your book's publication date. This long sales cycle is one of the reasons traditional publishers take longer to produce a book than standard hybrid presses, but it's essential for strong sales and retail partnerships. For that reason, Jumpshot follows this more traditional timeline.

With your book ready and our sales team fired up to sell, it's time to print. We'll select premium papers and production effects to make sure your book is rich and beautiful. Finished books will arrive in our warehouse about six weeks before the publication date, giving time to ship orders to stores in time for launch day.

Publication day has finally come! A few months prior to the big day, you'll meet with our marketing team to discuss launch plans, events, and other opportunities to bring your book out with a bang.

More than ever, the success of a book doesn't stop with a good launch. We'll continue to support your book with sales and marketing efforts. This might include special sales outreach to places like book fairs or catalogs, seasonal sales, outreach to specialty markets, subsidiary rights pitches, international sales, metadata and keyword refinement, social media advertising, and more as deemed appropriate.
