What we're looking for

Bushel & Peck Books is a thoughtful, family-run press that's passionate about creating extraordinary books for extraordinary kids. We publish a diverse range of children's literature, including board books, picture books, chapter books, and middle-grade books, across both fiction and nonfiction genres.

To streamline the submission process and ensure a thorough review of your work, please follow these guidelines:

For Agents:

For Unagented Authors:

  • We are currently only accepting submissions from authors who are invited by a Bushel & Peck editor to send unagented work. If you received an invitation, please email your submission to: generalsubmissions@bushelandpeckbooks.com
  • Subject line: Submission: [Title of Work]

All submissions must include:

  • Story title
  • Target age (please specify age range, e.g., 3-5, 6-8, etc.)
  • Word count (exclude back matter)
  • Story synopsis (1-3 sentences that clearly capture the essence of the story)
  • Author/illustrator bio (briefly highlighting your experience and any relevant publications)
  • A note about whether the manuscript is a simultaneous submission
  • For invited authors: Please indicate the name of the Bushel & Peck editor who invited you and the event or platform where the invitation was extended.
  • Manuscript attachment (.doc, .docx, or .pdf only) or portfolio URL

    We will respond if we are interested in your work. Please note that we may hold onto portfolios for an extended period while we consider them for upcoming projects.
